The GOG games indeed come as a Windows installer that you need to execute. To complete the previous reply here is my experience on a non Windows system. If you do buy ScummVM games via GOG, please do so via the affliate link shown on our website front page:Īmorphous wrote:Firstly, how easy is it to get the games from there up and running? Overall, I would recommend GOG, provided that you are happy with the previous situation and have read the EULA and thus understand what exactly you are paying for.Īny further questions or comments would probably be better directed to the GOG support forums or their technical support. This question would be better addressed to their technical support. Just google for these as this will vary on the installer used.Īs far as I know, the GOG installer contains no malware, extra toolbars or any other cruft apart from a small launcher frontend, the game datafiles, DOSBox/ScummVM or similar to run the game and configuration files tailored for these and the specific game, but I can't guarantee this. If you are using an unsupported OS, you will either need to do this with a Win32 or OSX box and transfer the datafiles to your OS or you can use various OSS tools to open the installer archive and extract the contents. Though it is possible to find these on the HDD after running the GOG installer and then use them with your general ScummVM install, back them up etc. The GOG installer does not offer any option to just extract the data files, a CD image of the original game etc. Check the README for location of these files. If you want to be safe, back up your configuration data and savegames prior to installing a GOG ScummVM game. I don't think that the installation will clash with a system installation of ScummVM as IIRC each game installs it's data, a copy of ScummVM and a tailored configuration file to a separate directory. The games come in as a single "GOG installer" executable which installs the game. AFAIK, there is no official support for Linux or other OS atm. This will usually only list WinXP and/or Mac OSX. It is very easy to get their games up and running, providing that you are running an OS listed on the "compatible with" field of the GOG game card. I should point out that my replies here are based on my experience of GOG, but your mileage may vary. Was also wondering if there's anything else I need to watch out for on there, any risk of unwanted software being installed or anything else I should be aware of when using GOG?Īgain apologies if they seem like dumb questions, I'm new to all this and I know some people here use GOG so was just hoping for advice on this before I sign up or buy anything, thanks in advance anyway. Main thing I don't want to happen is for that process to mess up the version of ScummVM I already have, will the file I run from GOG recognise I already have ScummVM installed, or allow me to just extract the necessary files? Hi, I'm fairly new to ScummVM and so apologies if any of these are daft questions, I'm looking at getting some games from GOG but was hoping to get a few answers first before I part with any money on there.įirstly, how easy is it to get the games from there up and running? I get the impression they come in one big exe file rather than individual files or a zip file, and I'm guessing that this exe file will install ScummVM as part of the installation process.
